DDAM Spotlight: Anita

March 2, 2026

Blue Bloods, Lattes, and Being the “Big Sister”

To kick off Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM), we’re thrilled to introduce: Anita

Anita’s weekdays are filled with purpose and community while spending time with her peers at the Third Age Center through SUNY Plattsburgh. It is here that Anita enjoys crafting, and is always up for a game of pool or darts.

Anita is known as a “big sister” to her housemates – always ready to lend a hand. A great cook, Anita took the lead this past year, helping to prepare both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for her whole house – desserts and all!

Anita is also incredibly goal-oriented and has recently committed to a major accomplishment: quitting smoking. Go, Anita!

What should you know before meeting Anita for the first time? She offers a fair warning: “If you don’t know me, you might get a surprise.”

"Anita not only likes to joke around with staff but she also likes to joke around with her housemates," confirmed Anita’s house manager, Cassie.

Anita’s ideal weekend starts with her favorite Signature Latte from Dunkin’, and includes a Blue Bloods or Walker, Texas Ranger marathon — insisting that both Tom Selleck and Chuck Norris are “easy on the eyes”.

We’re so happy to shine this week’s spotlight on Anita and her wonderful personality.

Steve is ready to take on the mess that winter leaves behind. In this photo, he’s holding mop heads after tackling dirty walkways tracked in from snow and salt. No matter how tough the cleanup is, Steve always approaches the job with a smile — something you can clearly see here. He takes pride in his work and puts care into keeping our spaces clean and safe for everyone. Steve has also been enjoying seeing these posts and being able to show off the great job he does, and we’re proud to give him the recognition he truly deserves. #AbilityOne #InclusiveWorkforce #AbilityNotDisability #SourceAmerica #ARC #WinterCleanup #PrideInWork
